Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) Training

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is a placement-led government scheme, which focuses on rural development in India. It aims at providing DDU GKY training to about 55 million rural youth of India and transforming them into a skilled, future-ready workforce. The scheme is also a great step towards reducing the poverty and minimizing unemployment in the Country.

Currently, DDU-GKY is being implemented in 27 States, and 4 Union Territories across 610 districts, partnering currently with over 877 Project Implementing Agencies covering more than 616 job roles across 57 sectors within the country.

DDU-GKY is part of the Skill India campaign and plays an active role in supporting the social and economic programs of the Indian government like the Make in India, Digital India, Smart Cities and Start-Up India, and Stand-Up India campaigns.

To implement the scheme effectively the state has paneled, dedicated PIAs’ (Project Implementing Agencies) to bridge the gap between the candidates and the employers. The high point of the framework is inclusion and self-regulation with assigned roles and responsibilities for teams within the PIAs.’

Implementation Model

DDU-GKY follows a 3-tier implementation model. The DDU-GKY National Unit at MoRD is responsible for policymaking, funding, technical support, and facilitation. The DDU-GKY State Skill Missions within the State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs) and NIRD provide co-funding and implementation support to DDU-GKY in the State while the Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) implement the programme through skill training and placement.

Key Objectives of DDU-GKY
